Thought I would offer a bit of insight into my work life here in Lyon...
As previously mentioned I work with an agency in Paris called Baby Speaking, who hooked me up with a family here in the city. The idea is for kids to absorb English at a young age and on a regular basis.
Every school day (the kids don't go to school on Wednesdays in France...how lovely) I pick the two girls up, Irene (9) and Margeaux (10), from their school at 4:30pm and travel with them by bus to their home. After a bit of a snack and any homework they might have, I lead some sort of activity, lesson or art project, in English of course, all while trying to incorporate some new vocabulary.
It took a few weeks for the girls to open up...but I think they are really starting to have some fun. They are very smart girls...definitely smart enough to dupe me every now and again, so it's really encouraging when I hear them starting to use some words I've taught them...my favourite part is when they pick things up that they've heard me say that weren't exactly in the lesson like "Oh my gosh!" or "Great Job".
Even though it's only a few hours each day, I spend a bit of time preparing the lessons so it adds a bit of structure to my otherwise leisurely French lifestyle, and it's a good opportunity to flex my creative muscles.
Thanks guys!
